The October Event Log saw a bunch of magic users open a portal into Hell to call out a horde of imps onto campus to attack and distract the students. Some one needs to close that portal. With their limited knowledge of this world's magic this can be best done from the other side which means once the portal is closed a bunch of your fellow students will be trapped on the other side in Hell.

Here's where you come in. You can sign your character up to be one of the portal closers which means they would end up trapped in Hell with the others. Or you can later work together with those left behind at the school to save those trapped in Hell. A log will be going up for this in a couple of days but y'all can sign up to be one or the other, plot ideas, brainstorm ways to reopen the portal without letting all the imps back in, work on a mass summoning, ect. Everyone is welcome!

Portal Closers:
Loki, Crowley, Alec, Beetlejuice, Sho

Rescuers:
Aziraphale, Harry, Lena, Eleven, Mal

About yourself: Huge nerd incoming. Fantasy is my jam and I like to be creative. I tend to be pretty quiet, but feel free to message if ya have questions and stuff.

Character: Vio
House: Eiather
About: Vio is pretty much that one nerd that keeps to themself if that nerd was a facet of someone’s personality and given a quest to save the world.
CR Goals: Make some friends to just hang out with and get him to open up to other people that isn’t a facet or reflection of Link, he had absolutely none of that on his quest.

Any CR that can challenge him to develop as a person in general is also good. Get him to relax and not fixate on the whole “only existed for a quest” thing.
Notes: Vio’s post quest but not post canon.

Been apparent for a while with my lack of activity, but I really need to let this go. I wanted to stick around, but it was a struggle before, and now it's just that much worse with everything I've been dealing with in rl lately. If things change, I hope to be back with him, but I don't know what that looks like right now. Thanks for having me!

October Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

Hello, everyone! Please be aware our response time may be slower the week of the 10th due to the holiday week and associated business on our ends. Also, why was September a trash fire in general? Anyway, moving on!

This Month In Diatu

  • Lousy Shmoctober Weather means you can't trust the skies day-to-day. Some quirk of the air currents around Ascelion means one day it might be summer-hot, and the next chilly enough to see frost in the morning. Students often resort to Intimation to figure out what to wear for the day (or Discovery, or Modification, to change as needed). Some rely on other magic to ward them against weather, which always results in hilarity when two temperature-controlling spells each attempt to overwhelm the other. Don't worry, the medical treatment stings less than the results!

  • The Fashion Police don't belong to Gekronus Maius, surprisingly, though their dapper dress and code of conduct would have you believe they do. In fact, this group of mischievous Purifeul students are taking the piss out of their rival House by appearing without warning, magicing their victims into formal wear, then disappearing in a puff of fashion. Although Professor Trammel has officially expressed his disappointment in these students, their efforts in mockery have completely failed to land among most Gekronus Maius wizards, who think frankly they're doing you all a favor. The rest of the student body is just glad that this month's ridiculous dispute doesn't involve getting sucked into an impromptu musical or poetry slam or whatever the hell Valhudor is up to lately.

  • Kedrigan Hall keeps burst into flames for some reason. If you are responsible for this, faculty would appreciate you stopping it, please and thank you.

  • This Month In Anastara

  • A Resurgence in Faith has begun. Lapsed followers are making appearances at services that aren't just the usual holiday obligatories, and many new converts are giving this whole 'worship' thing a try. Apparently an impressive festival is responsible. People may not quite believe in the gods as fact, but they did get the chance to see what benefits and power a little faith can bring.

  • Adventures

As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. As a reminder, you aren't confined to the suggestions on that page; you may give us a word or brief phrase, a general request, or even request something out of the events in the city. When posting, also let us know if you would like High, Medium, or Low mod involvement.

We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days. You may undertake a new adventure this month even if you are still in an adventure from previous months.

    September Activity Check

Welcome to the September activity check for Diatu Magicademy! A reminder of our rules:

    • You must check in.

    • With each character's check-in, you may list two Actions -- things they undertook behind the threads and have been working on this month. This can be as simple as, for example, Explore, Study, or Suck Up, or more detailed information. These don't require thread links, as they represent your characters' activities during the normal day-to-day life that threads don't ordinarily capture.

    • When we process activity, we will give you the results of your actions.

    • Special September Note: Because of the confusion over Actions last month, we loaded everyone's rewards into the Diatu Master Spreadsheet directly. This month we will give you the results directly, as well as ask for clarification as necessary based on what you submit.

Activity must be submitted by Wednesday, October 6 at 8 PM Eastern time.

      Please use the following form:

    September Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

Hello, everyone! We'd like to warn you that Labor Day Weekend is a hectic and uncanny time for us, and as such processing AC and adventures may be delayed until Monday or at the very worst, Wednesday. We'll do all we can to turn things around before that, but if we're running a bit slow, we apologize and will definitely get back to you by then!

    This Month In Diatu

  • Fall into Autumn! The Magicademy campus is an absurd place, with leaves that change not just color, but shapes and even sizes. Some trees launch seeds across the campus in paper-airplane-shaped leaves, while others aggressively attempt to weed out smaller competitors for their resources by dropping leaves the size of credenzas on anything nearby. A few trees burst into flame, which is apparently a totally normal thing for them. A small forest is vigorously attempting to relocate itself to the middle of campus, and an ongoing fight between it and the groundskeeping golems keeps escalating uncomfortably.

  • Visiting Students and Faculty from other Magicademies have stopped by, the better to examine the work in Sundering that Diatu has accomplished, and offer what help they can in identifying the sudden surge that results in more Sundered popping up. Their strange appreciation for foreign customs like actual fancy robes and regimented politeness make them weird and strange, and the faculty barely conceal the fact that they believe their greatest contribution in coming her is keeping Headmaster Birony from wedging a dragon's head into a Sundering portal just to see what happens. You all are going to be nice to them, right? Right???

  • Dueling Standards are out the window as a weird group of students have proposed that disputes between wizards should be solved with children's card games instead of a proper wizards' duel. The Dueling Club promptly challenged them all to a duel. Unfortunately, a couple of duelists on each side also were bala-inlota players, and their voices carried a slightly disproportionate weight when no one could agree on just how they were dueling. Now the campus is plagued by duels in which wizards simultaneously cast spells at each other while also playing Three Dragon War. At this point, maybe just stop going outside.

  • This Month In Anastara

  • Fall Cleaning is a massive enterprise in Anastara, featuring as it does the canals being diverted into the streets to wash through the gutters and drains and scour out the filth that built up during the busy summer months. Take your waders, because any street you think to go down might be a river this month!

  • Ire Factionalism has spread to the town as a whole, and the reason why now becomes apparent: capitalism has once again done no good for anyone, as various clothiers and haberdashers try to cash in by sparking this division through the use of hats, shirts, socks, flags, and doilies. Tribalism pays, we guess.

August Activity Check and a Quick Note on Adventures

Actually the Adventure Note Comes First

Hello, Diatuers! (Wow, that is terrible when written out.) We've seen a great deal of confusion regarding adventures, even from players the first time around, so we've taken a moment to discuss among ourselves to address this and will be making a change for adventures starting immediately.

When responding to your request for an adventure, we will ask what level of mod involvement you would like: High, Medium, or Low.

High involvement will have us essentially running the scene for you. This allows for more interaction with mod-created NPCs and greater potential for setting shenanigans, but will also add an additional party into the mix and thus cause delays in tagging and thread completion. It will also limit you to one single thread, which everyone in your adventure would need to participate in.

Medium involvement is much like our original iteration: we will supply the shape of the adventure and leave you to do it as you see fit, and you will check back in with us when the adventure, or major steps of it, are completed. For example, should you end up fighting a horrible monster, you would thread out the fight substantially, then tag our response to your adventure request linking us to it and we will offer you the results (and next step where applicable).

Low involvement basically turns y'all loose. Seriously, we are okay with this so long as you don't run our major NPCs. Beyond that, the setting allows pretty much anything you want to happen, within its scope and bounds. (You can totally wreck the setting. We expect this. It took something like three months at most to break the original metaplot into tiny pieces the first time?) Once you're done, we give you the final results.

We'll go back through and hit the current adventure threads, where appropriate. Some adventures are not suited for this treatment: Sphinx riddles, for example, offer very little opportunity for us to get involved between "get the riddle" and "answer the riddle".

On a final note, however, we want to clarify: adventures are meant, first and foremost, as group activities, meant to be threaded out. Even with High involvement, we will not run solo adventures.

    Activity Check (In)

Welcome to the August activity check for Diatu Magicademy! A reminder of our rules:

    Opening Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

Well, surprise to us! We didn't expect to turn over 25 applications in 25 hours, yet here we are! To our new characters, welcome back! To our returning characters, why the heck is Valhudor so overrepresented among you

    When Does It Open?

      NOW.

We'll have an actual event log in the beginning of August proper, but if you want to start making open posts or getting into trouble, go for it!

    Is The TDM Canon?

Absolutely, if you want it to be.

    This Month In Diatu

  • Hail becomes a concern around this time, thanks to some peculiarity of air currents and ocean evaporation up here on the floating island. Luckily, hailstorms are brief when they appear, but inevitably sudden and fierce for their short lives. Woe be unto the student who fails to protect themselves with a suitable shield when they spend any time out of doors!
  • Professor Ire has been the victim of mean-spirited but harmless pranks that truly represent just how harmless he is, considering the capabilities he surely has to address such pranking. In fact, the student body seems to be very slowly coalescing into pro-Ire and anti-Ire factions.
  • Bala-inlota Tryouts begin once classes are in swing. You may or may not be entered into them voluntarily; Captain Lominia is not exactly known for respecting consent when it comes to her student teams. Older students might trade or sell you the location of good places to hide from her.

    This Month In Anastara

  • A Sphinx In Training has set up shop down by the docks, laying out on a large comfortable rug and challenging passers-by to riddle contests. None of the riddles are terribly original; the Sphinx explains she is more interested in studying the body language of her victims than in defeating them. She also promises she won't eat you if you get the riddles wrong, and thus far, no one has appeared to claim she has eaten them. On the other hand, she occasionally veers out of the acceptable sorts of riddles to launch scavenger hunts and quirky challenges, in order to see just what people will do under the guise of a riddle contest.

    Adventures

As detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups as time and creative energy allow.

We can't wait to see you all subject yourselves to our whims WE MEAN start playing in our completely harmless and not-character-scarring game. Enjoy your RP!

    We Had A Good Year

With increasing drops, decreasing activity, and our own enthusiasm at a nadir, we must regretfully bid farewell to Diatu Magicademy.

Thanks to the efforts of the researches, a means back home for you all has at last been discovered. If you wish to stay, you may gladly; if you wish to go home, you will be remembered fondly.

If you have any questions about what all was going on in this game, feel free to ask them; we'll be happy to answer.

Beyond that: thank you for playing with us. We had a magnificent time.

"Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if only one remembers that you're a wizard and you can cast spells of light and, oh yeah, lots of other spells that can fix that whole 'dark time' thing." ~Headmaster Birony

    January Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

Happy new year! What would you like to see in Diatu in this upcoming year?

    This Month In Diatu

  • Absolutely Terrible Weather heralds in the coldest month of the year, and we do mean COLDEST, regularly clocking in negative-double-digits. Turns out sometimes a floating island has its downsides. Worse yet -- whether because of some quirk of being Sundered or simply the magic-charged air in Diatu, the weather has robbed each and every one of you of that magical power of being completely immune to cold no matter how ridiculous your outfits just because the animators didn't want to make up a whole new model for you. If you don't wear a shirt or your clothes are stylishly thin or your coat inexplicably hovers about two feet away from your body at all time, you'll be a sad, sad character!

  • Arcade Arms, renowned magical armory, has received permission to set up a small shop in the Great Hall, the faculty of Diatu Magicademy having finally thrown up their hands and acknowledged that most of you are going to carry around weapons no matter what they do so they might as well ensure you at least have the chance to get some from a reputed buyer. If you're looking for arms and armor, now's your chance to spend some of that money that's been burning a hole in your pocket thanks to that rogue Currency Combustion spell that went off in the hallway the other day.

  • The Caverns Beneath The Academy are chock-full of the undead, so that's a thing that's happening.

  • The Play's the Thing for drama-minded students, who count on these cold months to pack audiences into amply-warmed theaters to see their productions. From fine masterpieces performed as faithfully as possible to one-man shows and improv performances to those plays like we all wrote back in high school and hope to the Five Gods will never see the light of day again, you can find any performance to suit your tastes here. Or possibly work! Maybe a desperate student needs your mastery of Fantastics to complete their magnum opus, or maybe they just need you to pull on this or that curtain rope at the right time. But hey, you live for the theater, right?

    This Month In Anastara

  • I Really Must Go, but baby it's cold! Anastara is supported by magics in many respect, but even spells have their limits, and these frigid temperatures stretch them to the breaking point! Look for it and there's money to be made supplying heat to the city, whether it be shops or the docks or fancy houses or maybe even charity work for the less fortunate.

    Upcoming Events

This month features holiday disasters, courtesy of Spyro and featuring special guest Ire!
But surely his presence in the city will have no repercussions whatsoever, right?

    Adventures

TEST RUN FOR SOMETHING NEW: Want an adventure but aren't sure what? Rather than pick from our Adventures page, simply respond to the thread on this post with a word or brief phrase and an adventure category (e.g. short, dangerous, ridiculous) and we will come up with an adventure for you using that as inspiration!

As always, as detailed on our Adventures page, you may sign up for an adventure by responding to the appropriate comment on this post. We will respond with your adventure setups in a few days. You may undertake a new adventure this month even if you are still in an adventure from previous months.

We also want to encourage everyone to involve others in your adventures! Our efforts at running purely solo adventures have ultimately not worked out well, so we want to emphasize their role in building CR and engaging in plot or silliness.

    Gimme An Answer

Replacing most other options, Gimme An Answer is your place to communicate with the mod team if you want any sort of results from us. Actions, for example, now fall under here, as do regains, questions, or whatever you've got, really.

Y'ello my name is Samu and it's cool, I'm a friend of Doom's, I plork at https://www.plurk.com/SamuraiMarmoset (I don't know how to do the direct link thing) and I joined up playing Sophie, one of the second-gen characters from the 3DS video game Fire Emblem Fates' Conquest route. She's CRAU-adjacent in that while I've never played her before, I did play her mother Corrin in Melodies of Eternity and I will be playing Sophie with those events as canon, so she has something approaching a vaguely working knowledge of what her mom was up to on Vaikuntha, and I'm sure Tyzias (who Sophie has met a few times and knows is a friend of her mom's) is just oh so happy to hear that. Just wait until she asks about that time Tyzias got into it with the horny guy.

Sophie's an accident prone but perennially-cheerful knight in training who thanks to her heritage can usually (but not here right now at least) turn into a dragon. But she is out here doing her best trying to live up to her parents' legacy as two of the greatest heroes in her homeland and trying not to let that get to her too much. She also grew from a baby to a teen in the span of a long weekend thanks to Fates' hilariously awful explanation for how the second-gen works; the Baby Dimension. This is why her parents are at best two to three years older than her. She's also technically a princess, being a member of the royal family and all, but super-far down the line of succession; even Sophie mostly forgets about it most of the time. Don't worry though, she' mostly fine.

Except for the forced Second Seal change she just underwent into Dark Mage even though she'd been speccing for Cavalier. So, early days trying to learn magic after all that studying to be a knight are going to be a disaster, so for all her new schoolmates in Aer et Calculum have that to look forward to. Explosions abound.

    Decemner Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

Hello to our new players and happy holidays to all of you!

    This Month In Diatu

  • Snow Days feature the winter's nicest weather, as clouds gently unload steady inches of soft, fluffy flakes that become perfect for snowmen, snowball fights, and snow-based summonings. Animated snow golems march around campus causing trouble, often powered by some magic in that old top hat they found. Paths and walks remain clear thanks to the cleaning golems, which roam in great numbers blasting fire to melt the snow. The north half of campus is entirely dominated by golem-gang activities, as the Flaming Cleaners and the Snow Dummies Here gangs war with each other. Students who can avoid openly laughing at these terrible names are recruited for quests by golems helpfully wearing giant yellow exclamation-mark hats, and a complicated reputation system gates the best vendor purchases from the respective gangs, but it might be worth helping anyway.

  • Campus Tours escort promising wizards-to-be around Diatu Magicademy, as wealthy parents and guardians contemplate whether they should enroll their offspring in the most famous but also most dangerous Magicademy, or send them to a different one that might not be as prestigious but also might not be the biggest metaphorical ticking bomb in the history of humankind. This means the visiting youths are, all too frequently, arrogant brats who have a foundation in magic and believe themselves to be superior to the beginner students here, especially including the Sundered. Headmaster Birony has informed everyone that these students are critical to the school's ongoing survival, so anything you do to them can't leave evidence. In a completely unrelated incident, a message on the BBS that absolutely doesn't look like Headmaster Birony's handwriting offers instructions on how to enchant a sack of doorknobs so it doesn't cause bruising.

  • The Caverns Beneath The Academy... are empty? Is that good? That's bad, isn't it.

  • The Wild Hunt has emerged as the sun creeps towards solstice, renamed itself "the WYLD HÜNT" in an effort to appeal to modern sensitivities, and roams the island in the dark of night. Those who walk in darkness risk being kidnapped by the WYLD HÜNT and subjected to serve as their roadies for the night; those who return may never hear quite the same again. Professor Loshakle has advised everyone that, should you hear or see their ghoulish horses stalking your way, a sacred ritual will quell their hostility: simply point to the horses, identify them as "wyld stallyns", and make motions with both hands as if you held a guitar made out of air. This unfailingly makes the WYLD HÜNT be excellent to you, if you are in turn excellent to them and unfailingly pronounce the umlaut.

    This Month In Anastara

  • Snowy Docks mean job opportunities for those who can magic up heat and fire or otherwise clear the areas so commerce can resume. Anastara relies heavily on imports to survive, after all.

    Upcoming Events

We have two events for you this month! Coming up on the 6th, a wacky disaster that almost certainly has nothing to do with Tyzias will incarnate your Shadows, the embodiments of your repressed and shameful emotions now free to run amuck. And later, holiday disaster will occur courtesy of Spyro and, let's face it, probably Cam Birony.

    November Game Announcements

A Word From Your Mod Team

      Things are going to change.

First off, we apologize for how belated this announcement is! We've been pondering just what changes to make to the game for its long-term benefit ever since the close of October AC, and only now that we've reached some decisions are we ready to start the announcements.

Where do we stand at the moment? Well, it is obvious that Diatu is not destined for primacy as a household name in DWRP. Quite the opposite; were we to process last month's AC strictly, we'd be under 30 characters and 20 players.

Does that mean we're done? Heck no! We love this game and we think you all do too. But with these numbers, and with every likelihood they'd go down rather than up as we enter the holiday season, we need to change this game away from the structure of a large and formal RP standard.

    So What's Changing?

  • No reserves or applications. We will instead move to a claim system; players can simply put in their character information and their customization requests (House, special something) when they make their claim and we will process accordingly. We haven't seen any cause to reject applications since almost the start of the game, so we suspect this will not cause any trouble in the long term.

  • No AC. Instead, we will operate simply under a check-in system. Being realistic, the game would struggle through the holiday season anyway, possibly even collapse into a death-spiral. Instead, we hope this will encourage you not to worry about making AC and simply focusing on what you want to play. It should also make it easier for those of you who felt the pressure of AC to bring back characters you dropped out of concern for time investment, if you so choose.

  • No more Actions or most associated benefits, not in a formal sense. That means Regard, Colormarch, Fame, and Familiar Bond at the very least. If we're being honest, updating those consistently proved a real slog -- which we anticipated, but at the same time, we've seen very little motion in Regard, especially, for all the effort we've put into updating it. The Colormarch, meanwhile, simply makes no sense to maintain with low overall numbers, especially with poor Gekronus Maius having only two students to its name right now. Actions themselves are all universally last-minute things as well. By doing away with all of this, we'll put less burden on you to come up with these things and save us the grief of updating them.

    What's New?

  • The Gimme A Response system. In lieu of Actions, we'll implement a Gimme A Response thread each month where you can tag for anything that requires mod attention. Requests for NPCs, exploration desires, general actions, or anything you want our feedback.

    The Benefit

By knocking away a lot of the things that are only burdening us at this point, the mod team will instead commit to much faster turnaround on responses and NPC threads. Those are really what we like most too, so eliminating the bureaucracy of gaming will let us get back to what's most important: enjoying this game we made with you all!

    Feedback

Thoughts, opinions? We haven't updated anything yet on the other pages, preferring instead to share this with you all first to see what you think.

Hey all, I'm Kim or sometimes Indi, [plurk.com profile] indiwyn on Plurk, which is v. sparse because I haven't been on Dreamwidth RP in ages until this melodramatic failsnake pulled me in. You can also nab me on Discord at Indi#9943, I am there much more often.

Crowley has arrived from Good Omens (miniseries canon) to catch up to his boyf cowork Very Best Friend Aziraphale in somewhat codependent fashion. He'll be joining him over in Ka to make a lot of jokes about summoning demons, and to enjoy being on the same team. Crowley lives in Room #666, which now exists because of him, so you're welcome.

    Some general bullet points:
    - Crowley is a demon from (a very irreverent version of) Judeo-Christian theology. He has literal snake eyes (hence his constant sunglasses) and a barely-secret soft heart. He's not advertising the demon thing, but he doesn't really care who finds out. The soft-heartedness, you'll have to pry an admission out of him.

    - He's used to casually warping reality everywhere he goes and will be pretty chill about most not-dangerous things he runs into. What he will not be chill about: basic life skills he can no longer do by snapping his fingers. In this, he is a very lazy kid on his first day of adulting.

    - Feel free to fourth wall about his series, the book it's from, the Bible, things David Tennant is in. Have a party!

    - Diatu gave him a vintage, non-magic DeLorean. So a car has just appeared on campus somewhere, location TBD.

See you all out there! I'm very excited. :D

    October Activity Check

Welcome to the October activity check for Diatu Magicademy! A reminder of our rules:

  • You must provide one log thread with at least 5 comments from your character.

  • You must provide either an additional log thread with at least 5 comments from your character, or a network thread with at least 10 comments from your character.

  • If you have some activity during the month, but not enough to pass AC, you may request a strike. To clear the strike, you must provide double activity the subsequent month.

  • If you are on hiatus, you can still submit actions and check in to have them processed.

Activity is valid for posts made between the close of applications in October and the close of applications in November -- so this month, any activity made between Wednesday, October 2nd, and 8 PM Eastern time, Wednesday, November 6th.

Activity must be submitted by Saturday, November 9 at 8 PM Eastern time.

Also, as a reminder, the results of your Actions will be posted as a response to your activity check. If you haven't chosen any (and none of you have!), you have until AC closes to do so.

And since the newly apped arrivals are starting to roll in, I'm going to go ahead and say that the demon-summoning miniplot has been resolved, perhaps to be played out in backtags. Aziraphale, aka Mr. Fell, is back to himself again.

As for my boy here, his name is Pallidus, and he's the firstborn prince and heir to the kingdom of Cavernae. He's half Shadow Demon and half Ice Elf, and he basically got all the hot genes from both his parents, so he's a handsome mofo with a lot of magical aptitude. But he is a Prince, so he's not had a lot of experience dealing with non-nobility, and is also not super emotionally intelligent with regard to others. He will be in Aer et Calculum while he enjoys his stay here.

Beyond that, he has some really cool horns and he bleeds black! And also, he's allergic to sunlight, so he'll be having to stay indoors (and away from windows) any time the sun is out.

I'd also like to point out, he's an OC but he's not fully mine. I've borrowed him specifically to play here, but if you would like to know more I will be leaving my application available for anyone to peruse. (I'm also still working on icons so apologies if you get tired of seeing his same, handsome face everywhere.)

Thanks again for having me! I can't wait to really get into things! :D
